Suzuki Biomarker group
The University of Leicester team, led by Professor Toru Suzuki (Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist), is a clinically driven research laboratory that aims to drive front-line translational research by combining knowledge and experience in metabolomics and clinical/population data science. We have a cardiovascular-focused programme and have partnered and also participated in high profile, multi-centre cardiovascular projects and clinical trials.
The Cardiovascular Biomarker Facility, located within the BHF Cardiovascular Research Centre, was established in 2013 with funding from the John and Lucille Van Geest foundation. The Facility hosts a number of high-end LC-MS instruments from Waters, Shimadzu and Thermo Fisher, including high performance QToF and triple quadrupole mass spectrometers, to perform various phenotyping tasks. The present programme focusses on development of high throughput quantitative measurements of targeted biomarkers using multiple-reaction-monitoring techniques to be shared within the network and beyond. Integration of biomarkers with clinical/population data science approaches for clinical/translational solutions is also a distinguishing feature of the lab’s workflow. Last but not least, we are currently expanding our infrastructure to increase our capacity with additional instruments from Waters and Shimadzu with funding from the British Heart Foundation and the University.
